Where is Manny?

Jan-26-2009

So why havent the Mets gotten Manny Ramirez Yet?
I have to say that I am a bit dissapointed on the Mets brass for not being able to get Manny to the Mets yet. To me this is a no brainer and it only makes me wonder how much money did the Mets actually lose on the whole Bernie Maddoff fiasco.
I wonder because Omar Minaya has always been a GM that has brought in the big name talent every year since becoming the Mets GM and here is a situation were the Mets can add argubably the best clutch hitter in the game today, to a team that needs a clutch hitter.
To me, bringing in the Washington Heights product to Queens would be the perfect addition to a team that needs a fresh new start as they try to erase the memories of the last 2 seasons, as they welcome in a new era in Mets baseball in Citifield.
So why isin't Omar on the phone with Scott Boras talking about Manny in a Mets uniform? Maybe Omar is lying low and at the last minute, will surprise everyone with the big addition.
Or maybe not.
But one thing is for sure, if your a Mets fan, you cannot be too happy knowing that Manny is still out there to be had and the only thing Omar and the Mets are saying is that they are not interested in his services.
I am waiting for all this to simply be some New York media hype and that in the end, the real story will be that Manny is a Met.
By getting Manny the Mets will not only have taken care of buisness, but they will also wind up making the biggest splash in New York if they get Manny, topping the Yankees $420 millions plus investments, this off-season.
Too me the Mets cannot start the 2009 season without mixing up the lineup and mixing it up with a guy like Manny would be the perfect mix. Yes he is a head case, but I am willing to deal with his antics if it means big hits.

The 2009 season should not start without the Mets making at least 2 more additions to the team. So what to do?

Who do we want on the team?
Will Oliver Perez be resigned?
If Perez signs elsewhere, will they go after Sheets?
Is Orlando Hudson, who is still out there, going to be a Met?
Or maybe the Mets instead of going after Manny go out and get Bobby Abreu.

In a perfect world I would make Manny my 1st priority, ahead of getting Oliver Perez or a Ben Sheets. Then after getting Manny, I would go after Sheets for a 1 year deal instead of giving Perez the 5 year deal he seeks. I think Sheets and Manny is all the Mets need to take the next step. So let Perez walk, sign Sheets, but please get Manny!

My guess is that Wilpons gave Omar a budget and Manny just doesn't fit in. I mean in a perfect world, I'd like to believe that the Mets are taking a stand on principal and want nothing to do with this guy who has a track record of being a cancer but I know better. Maybe the Mets are waiting it out and are going to pounce when the time is right when Manny might panic and take a lesser deal but from what I've seen it seems to me that this is just a financial issue, I mean Omar has gone on record about how he likes Manny and Jerry Manuel said he would like to have Manny on the Mets. The time is getting late so we'll see if Omar and los Mets have another ace up there sleeve.

Boras came out yesterday saying he has continued his negotiations with several teams. Sounds like Manny will be with a team by next week.
Yea Jerry Manuel was on the Manny bandwagon, so was David Wright.

I hope the Mets dont take a chance on Manny because of his ways, Like Manuel said, I dont care what the guess does as long as he driving in runs, he said this while laughing his ass off.
